Nima Ashtyani practices in the areas of consumer and debtor rights, and general litigation matters.
Nima received a Bachelors of Science in Business Economics from Rutgers University, then obtained his law degree from Seton Hall University, School of Law in 2012.
Nima was an active participant in Seton Hall’s Conflict Management Program and Dispute Resolution Society. As an interscholastic competitor Nima competed in numerous competitions in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. Nima won the 2009 Representation in Mediation Regional Competition,
defeating other law schools in the Greater New York region, then became the National Runner-Up at the National Conference in 2010. Nima holds the distinction of being the only competitor in the history of Representation in Mediation to win a second Regional Competition, which he accomplished in 2010 with Stratton Stepp Ashtyani partner, Nicholas Stratton. He then proceeded to the National Competition again where he finished as a National Semi-Finalist in 2011.
Nima also served as the Dispute Resolution Society’s Vice President from 2010-2011, then served as President from 2011-2012. During this time, Nima represented otherwise pro se plaintiffs in mediation in the Southern District of New York for Employment Discrimination disputes. Nima also represented consumers against businesses in consumer rights arbitration matters in the Division of Consumer Affairs in Newark, New Jersey. Nima was also part of the inaugural class of the Investor Advocacy Program, where he represented individuals against investment firms through the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, or FINRA, in investment arbitration disputes.
After graduating law school, Nima served as a criminal law clerk for the Honorable Patrick J. Roma, J.S.C. for the 2012-2013 judicial term. During his time with Judge Roma, Nima drafted numerous Court opinions and viewed over a dozen criminal court trials. Nima found this to be one of the most rewarding experiences of his legal career, as he worked side-by-side with a Superior Court trial judge to learn the ins and outs of the judiciary, specifically in the area of criminal law. It was a true honor for Nima to serve as Judge Roma’s law clerk.
At the end of his clerkship term, Nima was accepted into, and attended Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for their LL.M. program in Dispute Resolution, ranked number one in the country.
While working to obtain his LL.M., Nima served as a mediator at the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, a law clerk at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, and as a research assistant for renowned international arbitrator, Thomas Stipanowich.
Upon graduation from Pepperdine University, Nima was associate attorney for Pressler and Pressler, LLP which provided a unique perspective to the creditors’ side of debt collection cases, which Nima utilizes in his advocacy of debtors’ and consumers’ rights.
After leaving Pressler, Nima worked as a consumer and debtor rights litigator for a few years, representing people in financial crisis and those harmed by financial institutions and other businesses.
